Netezza Delivers Real-Time Data to Epsilon Customers
Framingham, Mass. and Burlington, Mass.—March 5, 2003—Netezza Corporation and Epsilon, a Relizon company and leading relationship marketing provider, today announced that Epsilon is in production with the Netezza Performance Server™ (NPS™) system—the world’s first purpose-built, tera-scale data appliance optimized for the business intelligence (BI) needs of data-intensive organizations.
Epsilon is using the NPS system to consolidate campaign management and customer segmentation datamarts that historically have been run on Epsilon’s proprietary Event System. The combination of price/performance will help Epsilon provide its clients with an open, scalable, relational system with off-the-shelf tools for data access and campaign management that until now might have been price prohibitive.
“Performance of the NPS 8100 to date has shown in some instances more than thirty times performance of a similarly priced Oracle-based system,” states Bob Doyle, Epsilon’s chief database architect. “For example, a full table scan of 30GB executes in less than ten seconds. As a result, campaign management queries that used to take three hours with some technologies now take only three minutes with the NPS appliance.”
“The key to successful customer segmentation analysis and campaign management solutions is having several technology options to suit different clients’ particular needs,” said Michael Iaccarino, president and CEO of Epsilon. “One-size-fits-all isn’t a viable approach to effective CRM solutions. Netezza’s NPS system offers good flexibility to an important segment of our client base, as well as compelling price/performance benefits. We look forward to strong results working with the NPS appliance.”
“In order to remain competitive, companies such as Epsilon that are in the business of campaign management need to be able to provide complex data analysis to their clients,” said Jit Saxena, co-founder and CEO of Netezza. “The NPS appliance’s scalable and reliable architecture performs more sophisticated analysis in a fraction of the time of competing technologies, helping companies like Epsilon to deliver better value to their customers while also enabling them to lower their costs through datamart consolidation.”
The NPS appliance was designed from the onset to facilitate the complex types of data analysis that today’s business environments require—a ground-breaking alternative to the patchwork of general-purpose offerings that corporations were previously forced to rely on. The unique NPS architecture combines servers, storage and database into a single, powerful machine that shatters traditional performance benchmarks. The unique Asymmetric Massively Parallel Processing™ (AMPP™) approach combines the processing power of SMP with the scalability of MPP, delivering tremendous real-time performance and scalability. The patent-pending Intelligent Query Streaming™ design optimizes the flow of information by placing silicon processors near the storage device.
