The competitive field for the award included 89 entries submitted in nine categories, from which only ten winners were chosen. Catalina Marketing won the business intelligence Innovative Solution award for overcoming serious IT bottlenecks in its legacy data warehouse environment. Once the company migrated its enterprise data warehouse environment to Netezza’s data warehouse appliance, Catalina Marketing gained significant speed increases in its access to over 500 billion rows of shopper data, and more detailed insights into consumer behavior. The dramatic improvements of the Netezza appliance in performance and ease of use enabled Catalina Marketing to run 70 times the number of queries on five times the amount of data when compared to its previous legacy data warehouse system.
