TELEKOM SLOVENIJE SELECTS NETEZZA DATA WAREHOUSE APPLIANCE
Netezza Performance Server® System Implemented by Nation’s Leading Telecommunications Provider After Proof of Concept Reveals Complex Query Processing is Completed up to 500 Times Faster
Slovenia, 13 February 2007 — Netezza Corporation, the global data warehouse appliance leader, today announced that Telekom Slovenije – Slovenia’s leading national and international telecommunications provider for fixed line, mobile and Internet services – has selected the Netezza Performance Server (NPS®) data warehouse appliance. Telekom Slovenije began reviewing its data warehousing requirements in early 2006 after internal discussions highlighted that the organisation’s existing solution wasn’t able to scale effectively to deal with the increased levels of data processing that the company was now demanding.
Following a discussion with its retained reseller partner, crmT Slovenia, Telekom Slovenije – impressed with Netezza’s technology claims – ran a successful proof of concept in July 2006 which revealed that even the most demanding queries ran more than 500 times faster than the existing system. As a result, two delegates from Telekom Slovenije attended the Netezza User Conference to further assess the equipment and speak with other Netezza customers to understand more about what the NPS system could offer. The NPS system was purchased in November 2006 and less than a month after the shipment, the first project was put into production. Performance levels exceeded all expectations.
Jovo Šuput, CIO at Telekom Slovenije explained, “There were a number of problems with our existing system, but the frustrations got worse as the number of complex demands from business users increased. Even the most straightforward queries started to take longer to process so we approached crmT to seek advice on what alternatives were available. We found the price and scalability of the Netezza system attractive, but it was the ability to set up and run queries so quickly that really caught our attention. Telekom Slovenije will use the Netezza system as a central data warehouse integrating data from billing, inventory, CRM, SAP and others systems to effectively and efficiently analyse all data across business-critical processes. This comprehensive analysis will help us reduce customer churn, potentially fraudulent activities and ensure accurate revenue assurance, improving sales and marketing, product offerings and development."
Joe Napoli, General Manager for Netezza, Southern Europe added, “Data in the telecommunications arena is growing at an exponential rate. In order to remain competitive, organisations need to analyse customer data more effectively to make intelligent and educated business decisions. We’re delighted that Telekom Slovenije has chosen the NPS system to enable the fast, comprehensive analysis of its information. They join our growing list of global telco customers such as Orange UK and The Carphone Warehouse, proving that Netezza addresses the complex analytic needs of the telecommunications market.”
Telekom Slovenije will be presenting its experience with the NPS® system at the Netezza European User Forum in March, in London. Full details of the event and a link to delegate registrations can be found at: http://www.netezza.com/euf
The Netezza Performance Server system is the market-leading data warehouse appliance built specifically to analyse terabytes of detailed data significantly faster than existing data warehouses, at a much lower total cost of ownership. The NPS system stores, filters and processes terabytes of records within a single unit, analysing only the relevant information for each query. Netezza has placed the CPU power next to the data, allowing the NPS system to speed through processes that would occupy most data warehouse systems for hours, or even days, thereby enabling dramatic increases in productivity across the organisation. Customers who have recognised the performance benefits of Netezza’s approach include Amazon.com, Caudwell Communications, CNET Networks, Orange UK, Premier, Inc., Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation and The TJX Companies.
