NETEZZA DATA WAREHOUSE APPLIANCE HELPS WOLTERS KLUWER HEALTHCARE DELIVER “ON-DEMAND” ANALYTICS
Netezza Data Warehouse Appliance Replaces Traditional Data Warehouse;
Delivers Better Performance and a Lower Cost of Ownership
Framingham, Mass. — January 9, 2007 — Netezza, the global data warehouse appliance market leader, today announced that Healthcare Analytics, a unit of Wolters Kluwer Health, has selected the Netezza data warehouse appliance to provide on-demand analytics that can enhance delivery of key market data to pharmaceutical industry professionals. The Netezza data warehouse appliance replaces an existing Oracle data warehouse solution that was unable to keep pace with Wolters Kluwer Health’s data requirement needs and increasing new business opportunities.
Among the challenges Wolters Kluwer Healthcare Analytics was experiencing with its previous data warehouse solution was an inability to complete large database queries in an acceptable timeframe, increasing maintenance fees and the need to hire more database administrators to fine-tune the system to achieve tangible results.
“It became clear that we needed to make a change. Our existing solution was not keeping up with our growing business demands, nor was it putting us in a position to accommodate new business,” said Emory Heisler, vice president, Global Information Technology Services, Wolters Kluwer Health. “We needed to break the cycle of more data, more requirements, more money and the answer was Netezza.”
The Netezza Performance Server® (NPS®) data warehouse appliance replaced the old system’s server, operating system, database and disk storage systems and became the core component of a new grid processing environment that can scale to meet the needs of thousands of concurrent users, while also quickly analyzing and segmenting data at unprecedented speeds.
The NPS-powered grid system is able to run more efficiently and process more than 40 queries that were not previously executable. Time-sensitive sales information requests went from days to minutes and administration was reduced significantly – a testament to the appliance’s ability to provide immediate business impact.
“Our traditional data warehouse environment made it incredibly difficult to scale on an as-needed basis, both in terms of timing and cost. We were constantly wrestling with purchasing decisions and capacity concerns,” added Heisler. “By selecting the Netezza data warehouse appliance, we are able to meet the current and future needs of our business and make the important shift from being an infrastructure-oriented company to a customer-focused company.”
“We are thrilled that leading companies are using the Netezza data warehouse appliance to revolutionize the way they conduct business,” said Jit Saxena, CEO and co-founder of Netezza. “Innovative companies like Wolters Kluwer Health understand that to grow in today’s business environment and stay ahead of their customers, they need to look beyond traditional approaches to data warehousing. With the Netezza appliance, companies across the globe are experiencing a dramatic shift in the economics of data warehousing.”
The Netezza Performance Server system is the market-leading data warehouse appliance built specifically to analyze terabytes of detailed data 10 to 100 times faster than existing data warehouse options, at half the cost. The NPS system stores, filters and processes terabytes of records within a single unit, analyzing only the relevant information for each query. Netezza has placed the CPU power next to the data, allowing the NPS system to speed through processes that would occupy most data warehouse systems for hours, or even days, thereby enabling dramatic increases in productivity across the organization.
Customers who have recognized the benefits of Netezza’s approach include Ahold, Amazon.com, Cingular Wireless, CNET Networks, Debenhams, Department of Veterans Affairs, Epsilon, Orange UK, Premier, Inc., Ryder System, Inc., Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation, The Carphone Warehouse and The TJX Companies.
