Sydney, 16 August 2005—Netezza has implemented a multi-terabyte data warehouse appliance within its Sydney data centre to offer Australian enterprises and government agencies a unique proof of concept opportunity. The Netezza Performance Server® (NPS®) system is a data warehouse appliance used for analysing terabytes of data 10-50 times faster and at half the cost of existing data warehouse options from IBM, Oracle and Teradata.
“The Netezza system took less than three days to implement whereas competitive products take weeks to months to be ready for multi-terabyte data queries,” said Vinay Samuel, sales director Asia Pacific for Netezza. “Our proof of concept centre now offers organisations the opportunity to see how quickly the NPS system can really analyse terabytes of detailed data.”
The NPS system integrates a relational database, server and storage into a single appliance. Netezza has placed processing power next to the data, so data analysis occurs at the source at streaming speeds. This reduces the time it takes for large organizations to run queries and analyses from days to seconds meaning a dramatic increase in productivity for users. Time isn't spent running queries and maintaining the database, it's spent leveraging business intelligence to make smarter business decisions.
As a technology vendor, Netezza partners with system integrators such as BearingPoint
to provide information management services to customers. Robert Hillard, BearingPoint's
Managing Director responsible for Data Management says, "Data-intensive
organisations in finance, telecommunications and government sectors have sunk
a lot of money into data warehousing. These organisations tend to be cautious
because of the scale of resources traditionally required to acquire and operate
a data warehouse but they are under pressure to provide greater business intelligence
and they need powerful technology to deliver answers.
"Netezza is a good fit because the NPS is simple and cost effective to
implement and allows clients to focus on the real obstacles of sourcing, standardising
and integrating the data. Every dollar that is spent on the database is a dollar
that can't be spent on fixing the data," said Hillard.
Netezza launched its Australian operation in April 2005.
