NETEZZA ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF ORANGE UK DEPLOYMENT

Extended Use of NPS System Enables Leading Wireless Telecommunications Carrier to Keep Pace with Growing Data Volumes and Provide Exceptional Customer Offerings

Framingham, Mass.—May 3, 2004—Netezza Corporation today announced that Orange UK (LSE:OGE), the UK’s most popular mobile phone service, has increased its commitment to the Netezza Performance Server™ (NPS™) system to keep pace with growing subscriber data. Orange UK first purchased an NPS system in July 2003 to power its business intelligence efforts and support a range of customer and financial analysis down to the Call Detail Records (CDRs) level.

“In a very short period of time, the NPS system has proved its value and delivered what we expected—speed, power and unmatched capability for CDR analysis,” said Judith Galpin, manager of Revenue Protection & Business Intelligence, Orange UK. “Thanks to the combined support of Netezza and their systems integrator, Infogain, we have gone live on schedule. Now, the seamless transition to an expanded Netezza system means we can grow our BI system's capabilities and its resilience.”

With more than 13.6 million active customers, Orange UK, a member company of the Orange Group, holds a market leadership position in mobile communications in the UK. The Orange Group is one of the world’s largest mobile communications companies, with operations in 19 countries across Europe and beyond.

“The ability to rapidly and comprehensively analyze CDRs and other customer-related data can be a significant competitive advantage for large telecommunications players,” said Gary Butler, CTO of Infogain, Netezza’s systems integration partner. “The Netezza Performance Server appliance delivers this capability while providing a flexible and open system for rapid and easy deployment. Our expertise in designing and implementing complex analytics systems, combined with Netezza’s technology, delivers a powerful CDR analytics and business intelligence solution that can grow with organizations as their data needs increase.”

“There is perhaps no greater validation of the NPS system’s value than customers like Orange UK, who realize the expected value of the NPS platform and extend their commitment when their data needs increase,” said Jit Saxena, co-founder and CEO of Netezza Corp. “Designed for quick and easy scalability, the NPS appliance enables Orange UK, and other Netezza customers, to keep pace with the requirements created by fast-growing data volumes. Netezza is quickly becoming the analytic infrastructure backbone of choice at some of the most data-intensive organizations in the world. Netezza is proud to include Orange UK among this group.”

The NPS system architecturally integrates servers, storage and a relational database into a single powerful, enterprise-class appliance created from the outset to process queries faster and enable complex analysis that was not previously possible because of large and fast-growing data sizes. This unprecedented analysis enables companies to harness information located in tens, even hundreds, of terabytes of data in order to lower costs, reduce risk and fraud, strengthen customer relationships and keep pace with ever-changing market trends.

Since its introduction one year ago, the NPS appliance has been chosen and deployed by leading companies in telecommunications, retail, the life sciences and other industries to power their business intelligence efforts. Customers include: AT&T Wireless, The TJX Companies and Premier, Inc.
