NETEZZA COVERED IN NEW INDUSTRY ANALYST REPORT ON DATABASE MARKET

META Group Research Discusses Trends in VLDB Market and the Netezza Performance Server

Framingham, Mass.—October 29, 2003—Netezza Corporation today announced that the Netezza Performance Server™ (NPS™) appliance is covered in research recently published by META Group, a leading provider of information technology research, advisory services and strategic consulting. The META Delta, entitled “Lateral Thinking in the VLDB Market,” focuses on the very large database (VLDB) market.

The NPS system is the first enterprise-class data appliance optimized for Business Intelligence (BI) on tens, even hundreds, of terabytes of data in today’s real-time enterprise. The NPS 8000 series delivers 10 to 50 times the performance for large, complex and constantly evolving BI efforts at half the cost of existing, general-purpose enterprise data warehouse systems.

The research, written by Charlie Garry, senior program director, discusses Netezza’s appliance approach to data analysis and offers examples of how customers are using the NPS system. It also provides an overview of specific results achieved by a telecommunications carrier that is using the NPS system.

“The ability to analyze data is rapidly becoming one of the defining features of successful businesses,” said Garry. “As organizations continue to realize the important role that data can play in making better business decisions, there has become a need within the VLDB market for products that provide a higher level of performance than traditional data warehousing technologies at an affordable price.”

“We have received extremely positive feedback from our initial customers in the telecommunications, financial services and outsourced analytic services markets,” said Jit Saxena, co-founder and CEO of Netezza. “The NPS appliance empowers companies by providing them with the information they need to make intelligent business decisions faster and more affordably than ever before.”

The NPS system architecturally integrates servers, storage and a relational database into a single powerful, enterprise-class appliance created from the outset to process queries faster—and enable complex analysis that was not previously possible because of large and fast-growing data sizes. This unprecedented analysis on oceans of information enables companies to harness information located in tens, even hundreds, of terabytes of data in order to recover lost revenues; improve risk management; reduce fraud; compress decision cycles and strengthen customer relationships.
