Netezza Performance Server Recognized in Data Management Category for Delivering High-Performance Business Intelligence Analysis to Fortune 1000
Framingham, Mass.—September 26, 2003—Netezza Corporation today announced it has been selected as one of the winners of the Computerworld Innovative Technology Awards. The awards conducted by IDG’s Computerworld, the voice of IT management, are given to leading-edge technologies that provide measurable business value to end-user organizations. Winners were announced in the September 22 issue of Computerworld and online at Computerworld.com.
Netezza, a privately held company, was selected as one of only two winners in the “Data Management” category. The Netezza Performance Server™ (NPS™) system is the first enterprise-class data appliance optimized for Business Intelligence (BI) on tens, even hundreds, of terabytes of data in today’s real time enterprise. The NPS system delivers 10 to 50 times the performance for large, complex and constantly evolving BI efforts at half the cost of existing, general-purpose enterprise data warehouse systems.
Vendors are nominated for the Innovative Technology Awards by information technology end users that do not produce or sell technology. The nominees are then surveyed about their technology innovations, and a panel of outside experts and Computerworld editors reviews the surveys and chooses 30 winners in 10 categories.
“Our technology is changing the long-standing economics of the data warehousing industry by enabling companies to analyze data faster and more affordably than ever before,” said Foster Hinshaw, co-founder and CTO of Netezza. “This award exemplifies the hard work of our employees who through their dedication are enabling our customers to use Business Intelligence strategically to tackle the large business challenges caused by constantly-growing volumes of information.”
“This year’s awards are evidence that innovation is alive and well in the IT industry,” said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. “However, technology end users have made it plain that innovation must move toward a greater goal: to support larger business needs and deliver measurable value. Our editors and our readers believe that this year’s winners have achieved that goal.”
The NPS system combines servers, storage and database into a single powerful, enterprise-class appliance created from the outset to process queries faster—and enable complex analysis that was not previously possible because of large and fast-growing data sizes. This unprecedented analysis on oceans of information enables companies to harness information located in tens, even hundreds of terabytes of data in order to recover lost revenues; improve risk management; reduce fraud; compress decision cycles and strengthen customer relationships.
This award is the latest in a series of widespread industry praise for the Netezza team and solution. Recently, Co-Founder and CEO Jit Saxena was named an Ernst & Young New England Entrepreneur of the Year and an InformationWeek “Innovator and Influencer for 2003.” In May, Hinshaw was named a “2003 InfoWorld Innovator.” Attendees at the Datacenter Ventures Conference held by Technologic Partners last year voted Netezza “most likely to succeed.” And an IDC Research study called Netezza “a business analytics revolution in the making.”
