Officials from 15 companies named entrepreneurs of year

Fifteen New England business figure have been awarded the Ernst & Young 17th Annual New England Entrepreneur Of The Year awards, which honors outstanding leaders of entrepreneurial companies.

Honored at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel June 26 were:

-Jeffrey Parker, Corporate Communications Broadcast Network, Boston;
-Terry Ragon, InterSystems, Cambridge;
-Colin M. Angle and Helen Greiner, IRobot Corporation, Burlington, Mass.;
-Jeffrey Beir, eRoom Technology, Cambridge;
-Paul M. Swenson, Kortec, Inc., Beverly;

Chosen among 64 finalists from 55 companies by an independent panel of judges, these regional award recipients will now compete with winners in all other regions nationwide for awards at the National Entrepreneur Of The Year Conference in Palm Springs, Calif. this November.

Past New England regional award recipients who have won national awards include Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield of Ben & Jerry's, Jim Koch of Boston Beer Company, Joanna Lau of LAU Technologies Inc., Leon Gorman of L.L. Bean Inc., Patricia Gallup of PC Connection, Ray Sozzi of Student Advantage LLC, George Hatsopoulos of Thermo Electron Corporation, Fran Sussner-Rodgers of Work/Family Directions Inc. and Michael Kittredge of Yankee Candle Co., Inc. among others.

The award program was begun by Ernst & Young in 1986 to recognize entrepreneurs who had created and sustained successful, growing business ventures. Since then, the program has grown throughout the world, expanding to more than 150 cities in over 35 locations.
