Netezza Performance Server Certified for MicroStrategy BI Platform

Netezza Corporation announced at The Data Warehouse Institute World Conference in Orlando that MicroStrategy Incorporated, a leading worldwide provider of business intelligence software, has certified the Netezza Performance Server (NPS) as a supported DBMS vendor for the MicroStrategy Business Intelligence Platform. Netezza delivers the world’s first purpose-built, tera-scale data appliance optimized for the business intelligence needs of data-intensive organizations.

The NPS appliance was designed from the onset to facilitate the complex types of data analysis that today’s business environments require – an alternative to the patchwork of general-purpose offerings that corporations were previously forced to rely on. The NPS architecture combines servers, storage and database into a single, powerful machine that exceeds traditional performance benchmarks. The Asymmetric Massively Parallel Processing (AMPP) approach combines the processing power of SMP with the scalability of MPP, delivering real-time performance and scalability. The patent-pending Intelligent Query Streaming design optimizes the flow of information by placing silicon processors near the storage device.

"MicroStrategy works with leading technology vendors to ensure that our customers can easily implement the MicroStrategy Business Intelligence Platform alongside their preferred technology appliances and databases," said Jeff Bedell, CTO of MicroStrategy Incorporated. "After evaluating the NPS system with the MicroStrategy 7i platform, we believe Netezza can deliver impressive performance levels, especially for large-scale data warehouses, which is why we have added the NPS appliance to our list of supported platforms."

SAS Bridges the Enterprise Intelligence Information Gap with Open Meta Data

SAS System 9, the latest version of SAS software, enables enterprise systems to easily exchange and share key information that can affect a company's bottom line by allowing database administrators to integrate and manage meta data from various sources.

Defined as information that describes other data, meta data acts like a "bridge" that connects various information systems. As one of the first business intelligence vendors to announce full compliance with the Common Warehouse Metamodel (CWM) standard, SAS is pioneering the open meta data initiative through its alliance with Meta Integration Technology Inc. (MITI). Supporting an open meta data architecture allows users to exchange meta data freely between a range of products from different vendors, minimizing the risk and cost associated with maintaining a variety of software environments.

"Our alliance with MITI and the compliance with CWM enables SAS to provide an open intelligence architecture," explained Tho Nguyen, director of data management strategy at SAS. "Our customers can capture and integrate meta data from various vendors – such as Business Objects or Informatica – through MITI's Meta Integration Model Bridge (MIMB) product. This meta data can then be utilized to easily execute business intelligence, data warehousing or enterprise performance management implementations at lower cost."

DataFlux Offers ‘Fast Track’ to Extensible Data Quality Management

DataFlux Corporation, a SAS Company and provider of data quality and data integration solutions that increase the accuracy and reliability of enterprise- wide data assets, announced the availability of its Fast Track Services data quality program. The service is a low-cost, fast-turnaround way to get started in data quality and data integration. It is intended for companies that are interested in cleaning up their data but are unsure about how best to implement a roadmap for data integration.

"The single most challenging aspect for companies is to recognize and determine the severity of their data quality issues and face the problem head-on to obtain resolution," said Robert Lerner, senior analyst at Current Analysis. "The next greatest challenge is how to approach that data quality problem and how to solve it quickly. Spending the money, time and resources to collect massive volumes of data without ensuring the quality of the data is futile and only leads to disappointment."

Fast Track Services is a program that combines a data assessment and analysis, DataFlux’s proprietary data quality methodology, the Data Analysis and Methodology Report, and training, in only a matter of days. DataFlux helps organizations discover, analyze and measure the extent of any incorrect data, and then facilitate the correction of data inaccuracies. The resulting data quality improvement allows business processes to function reliably and provides the foundation for sound business decisions.

Under the program, companies may submit sample data for an analysis. In turn, they receive detailed data analysis and report statistics, the DataFlux quality methodology optimized for their data, product solutions recommendations and product recommendations, knowledge transfer from subject matter experts and up to three days of training. The roadmap is developed from DataFlux’s proprietary methodology and its approach to data quality and integration.

For information on how to participate in the Fast Track Services data quality program, contact customer information at DataFlux by calling 877/846-3589.
